FELA

The new musical based on the life of African composer and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti comes to Broadway....an Off-Broadway hit in 2008.

Enter the extravagant, decadent, rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo - Kuti. A provocative hybrid of concert, dance and musical theatre, "FELA!" features arrangements by Aaron Johnson and Antibalas with direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones.

Critics were largely enthusiastic about the Off-Broadway production. Bloomberg News called it "electric and eclectic, exotic and hypnotic, at once overpowering and empowering." And the New York Times, despite some qualms, called it "nigh impossible to resist"

May be inappropriate for 12 and under due to strong language and adult subject matter. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre...

*** I would love to get a group to go see this early 2010. Lemme know if you are interested (you know how to contact me) otherwise - I will tell you all about it!

ticket prices: $53.00 - $120.00

$82,000 -- WTF???

This is sad... in every way!

I could care less if Serena is Black, White, or Hindu - it doesn't matter. She is a "HUMAN" who, in the heat of the moment became angry and allowed her emotions to get the best of her. John McEnroe said that her actions were inexcusable! First of all -- John McEnroe!!! (enough said)

Any athlete doing battle to win a tournament or an event deserve to be angry when losing. Serena doesn't enjoy losing and neither should you! We all have competed in something in life before and can accept losing - because it is a fact of life - but can you lose with dignity & pride while knowing that you've been cheated...??? The question was asked would you want your kids to look up to her. Y E S ! This one outburst doesn't define her as a person or the legacy she will leave in the tennis world. Have you ever been to a pro event or a grand slam? Have you sat in the crowd to witness the ugly and harsh things that are yelled out at our athletes (black, white, asian etc.)? Have you ever been called spick, wetback, chink, cracker, monkey and had bananas thrown at you while in the midst of your event? What would you do - would you smile - would you become angry or would you be like Serena and most of our PROFESSIONAL athletes who hold they're composure and continue to serve up a can of whoop-assz!?! We must stop holding athletes at such a high standard as if they are immortals and immune to every day trials and tribulations. They are HUMANS who just so happen to be very good at what they do. It is not the athletes who need to change - it is "WE" who need to change. So yes, I'd advise my two daughters to look up to the Williams Sisters -- be about your business, stand firm in your beliefs and don't except undo sh*t from others. When you compete in this game called
LIFE - believe in yourself - believe you are the best - hold your head high and step out there knowing you can not be defeated.

Stop blaming Richard for the way he raised his children. He prepared them for what was to come. Richard taught his daughters how to perform under extreme pressure! He told them that they were the best and it is my strong belief that many more parents should be telling their kids that they are the best.

Let's re-focus to the REAL problem at hand... Serena & Venus were the only female athletes participating in the US Open to be repeatedly called for "Foot Faults". YES Sereana does foot fault and should be called for it. We are not discussing or debating does she foot fault -- but did she foot fault at that moment.
NO SHE DID NOT! Why is this important? It is an important fact because that wrong call not only caused her to lose the match but it is the reason we are here today discussing this matter.

During this "TIRADE"
(some of you should look up the exact meaning of tirade -- Tirade Definition Definition of Tirade at Dictionary.com) if you listen closely - amongst other things, you will also hear Serena say, "You Better Be Right"! (instant replay proved the line judge to be wrong) Let's not make this a Black vs White issue, but let's make it a fairness issue. IS THIS FAIR? NO! These girls have endured a lot! Some of you - esp. "Peaches" have short memories or selective memories.

Serena and her sister have always been in the center of unjust controversy -- look it up for yourself! Can you remember this "TIRADE"?

Officials apologize to Serena for bad call.Umpire dismissed from US Open after mistake in Williams loss to Capriati. “I called Serena,” said Arlen Kantarian, the Chief Executive of Professional Tennis. “I apologized for the call, the overrule — which was a clear mistake — and told her how important she was to the U.S. Open, how she was a class act and how well she handled the situation last night. “She was very appreciative of the call.” (okay - she was appreciative of the call but did they give her the win or pay her $82,000 for holding her composure? Did anyone apologize to the fans - what about the children who look up to her???)

U.S. Open Tournament Director Jim Curley said, “It was a mistake but she is a very experienced umpire and mistakes get made out there." WTF???

Later in the final set, replays showed at least two other incorrect calls that went against Williams. WTF???

“I’m very angry and bitter right now. I felt cheated. Shall I go on? I just feel robbed,” she said, managing to laugh. “At first, I thought it was another "Wimbledon Conspiracy” where here Sister Venus lost in the second round that summer at Wimbledon after Karolina Sprem was mistakenly awarded an extra point in the final-set tiebreaker. Venus did not contest the call, and later - chair umpire Ted Watts was tossed out of the tournament. Should Venus have been awarded the title or better yet $82,000 for acting "Lady Like"? Did anyone apologize to the fans - what about the children who look up to her???

Why are rules not equal? Why is it a violation for one and not the other...? i.e. Dinara Safina foot faulted 11 times that was recorded and replayed on TV and she was not called for 1. As a matter of fact - almost every time she serves it is a foot fault. Her right leg crosses the center line nearly every time - which is a foot fault. Someone said that if a pro basketball player threatened an official that they would be suspended for 1yr and fined. I agree - they would be ejected and penalized. The decision will be handed out swiftly - not debated upon for months. WTF??? Also does anyone know how those #'s were calculated and how did they come up with the total fine amount? Or did all of the cheaters on the committee decide that $82,000 divided amongst one another will be great "Stocking Stuffers"? I mean who does this fine benefit -- and isn't it kind of ironic that it happened just before Christmas? Why didn't he just say, "Hey Serena - my son needs tuition to go to Princeton - can you help? Oh great - - thanks - - we except direct deposit by the way!

Can anyone see the pattern? All of these mistakes that just happens to only happen to the Williams Sisters? So please don't sit on your highness and be so swift to judge -- and for all of you saying, "it's only $82,000 -- she can afford it" WHERE IN THE HELL ARE YOU FROM...???

I will end with this...
THIS IS WRONG!
