FOOD FOR THOUGHT

We tend to rank sin in order of severity, but God doesn't. In Proverbs 6 there is a list of things God despises. Included on that list are lying and sowing discord among brothers. Ever lied before?

We are all in need of saving. We are all in need of a Savior!

1 John 1:8 (New International Version)

(8)If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Signs of a STROKE!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)

(i.e. It is sunny out today.)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS..

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.... If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

Is Harry Reid a Racist?

I am an educated and intelligent "Dark Skin 'd Black Man" who is proud of whom I am and very comfortable in my skin. We as Black People have our own way of communicating which can only be interpreted by us. Our own secret language so to speak. We communicate through gestures, body language, looks, and what many call slang. To me that makes us very diverse and intelligent. It is amazing that we can sit in a room full of people and communicate without having to say a word. It is a vibe - and cannot be taught. However, we MUST be intelligent enough to know when to switch it up. Regardless of your race or background - you cannot go into an interview representing your set (wearing colors) and speaking the language of "da hood!"

I remember how excited I was and how it felt to have graduated, to have a degree, and to have a high expectation - I was on Cloud 9. I also remember how it felt to be educated, with a degree and wearing an expensive suit but could not land a job. I felt like an educated dummy! It was a "white" friend who said, "Man it is your teeth!" My immediate thought was hell no - that can't be it! I use to have eight permanent gold teeth. Determined to be successful I took my friends advice - went to the dentist and had all but two removed and replaced with crowns. Guess what...?!? Yelp, I had jobs chasing me. My friend wasn't being racist by telling me the truth. He was being a friend by telling me that although "intelligent" I was "too black" for mainstream America. It is my opinion that [I -- we] don't know Harry Reid personally enough to say he is racist. He very well may be racist deep down in the secret department of his heart. I do not judge him. I was not offended by his comment although it can be taken offensively. I looked past how he phrased his comment and understood as, "America has a color problem and always will."

During the 2008 presidential election, Hillary used Obama's race against him in a multitude of contexts, like trying to associate him with "bad black people" like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Minister Louis Farrakhan. We also remember when Hillary's husband Bill went to South Carolina and compared Obama's chances of winning to Jesse Jackson's 1984 Presidential campaign- effectively arguing that America is not ready for a black president. What this effectively says is that being "too black" is not acceptable in American politics.

America still sticks with "acceptable forms of blackness." I think people sometimes forget what diversity actually means. For every Harvard Professor who speaks proper English, there is an intelligent brother from "da hood" who communicates in an entirely different way.

As we near the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we have a unique opportunity to address what it means to act, speak or look "too black." Most of us know that Harry Reid's words have some truth to them, so we can either explore the issue thoroughly or attempt to kill the messenger.

The Best and Worst Beers for Your Belly

Beer and wine both have a lot of magical effects on the body, both positive and negative. If you can limit yourself to one or two a day, then you can get the health benefits without too many extra calories—if you choose wisely. Here's a rundown of what you're really getting each time you reach for a cold one.

Beers are judged based on calories and carbohydrate content...

The following beers are listed as the 5 Worst Beers in 2009.

#5 Redhook ESB
179 calories
14 grams carbohydrates
5.8 percent alcohol

If you’re hooked on this beer, make sure to stick with just one.

#4 Budweiser American Ale
182 calories
18 grams carbohydrates
5.3 percent alcohol

There’s no way around it: Once you start to pound this beer, that’s exactly what you’ll end up with: more pounds.

#3 Samuel Adams Winter Lager
200 calories
14 grams carbohydrates
5.8 percent alcohol

Yes, it's delicious. But drink two of these and you’ll be consuming the calorie-equivalent of a small meal—such as a McDouble burger from McDonald’s.

#2 Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss
207 calories
28 grams carbohydrates
4.7 percent alcohol

For a 12-ounce serving, this Wisconsin brew has calories and carbs up the Leinenkugel.

#1 The Worst Beer for Your Belly: Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale
330 calories
32 grams carbohydrates
9.6 percent alcohol

If you’re serious about losing your gut, you should avoid this brew.

While research does shows that one to two drinks a day can be part of a smart eating plan, this beer packs two to three times more calories than a glass of wine (around 120 calories) or a bottle of light beer (about 100 calories).

Making the list for "The Best Beer for Your Belly" in2009:

MGD 64
64 calories
2 grams carbohydrates
2.8 percent alcohol

It’s right on the bottle: Only 64 calories. And it claims the No. 1 spot over Beck’s Premier Light because it’s a little lower in alcohol content. And that’s the politically correct choice, right?

The SENSITIVE Man

A woman meets a man in a bar.

They talk; they connect; they end up leaving together.

They get back to his place,
and he shows her around his apartment.

She notices that one wall of his
bedroom is completely filled with
soft, sweet, cuddly teddy bears.

There are three shelves in the
bedroom, with hundreds and
hundreds of cute, cuddly teddy
bears carefully placed in rows,
covering the entire wall!

It was obvious that he had taken
quite some time to lovingly arrange
them and she was immediately touched
by the amount of thought he had
put into organizing the display.

There were small bears all along
the bottom shelf,

medium-sized bears covering the
length of the middle shelf,

and huge, enormous bears running
all the way along the top shelf.

She found it strange for an obviously
masculine guy to have such a large
collection of Teddy Bears..

She is quite impressed by his sensitive
side but doesn't mention this to him.

They share a bottle of wine and continue
talking and, after awhile, she finds herself
thinking,

'Oh my God! Maybe, this guy
could be the one!

Maybe he could be the future
father of my children?'

She turns to him and kisses him
lightly on the lips.

He responds warmly.
They continue to kiss, the passion
builds, and he romantically lifts her
in his arms and carries her into his
bedroom where they rip off each other's
clothes and make hot, steamy, passionate love.

She is so overwhelmed that she responds
with more passion, more creativity, more
heat than she has ever known.

After an intense, explosive night
of raw passion with this sensitive guy,
they are lying there together in the afterglow.

The woman rolls over, gently
strokes his chest and asks coyly,

'Well, how was it?'

The guy gently smiles at her,
strokes her cheek,
looks deeply into her eyes,

and says:

'Help yourself to any prize
from the middle shelf.'

FELA

The new musical based on the life of African composer and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti comes to Broadway....an Off-Broadway hit in 2008.

Enter the extravagant, decadent, rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo - Kuti. A provocative hybrid of concert, dance and musical theatre, "FELA!" features arrangements by Aaron Johnson and Antibalas with direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones.

Critics were largely enthusiastic about the Off-Broadway production. Bloomberg News called it "electric and eclectic, exotic and hypnotic, at once overpowering and empowering." And the New York Times, despite some qualms, called it "nigh impossible to resist"

May be inappropriate for 12 and under due to strong language and adult subject matter. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre...

*** I would love to get a group to go see this early 2010. Lemme know if you are interested (you know how to contact me) otherwise - I will tell you all about it!

ticket prices: $53.00 - $120.00
running time: 2 hrs 20 mins

$82,000 -- WTF???

This is sad... in every way!

I could care less if Serena is Black, White, or Hindu - it doesn't matter. She is a "HUMAN" who, in the heat of the moment became angry and allowed her emotions to get the best of her. John McEnroe said that her actions were inexcusable! First of all -- John McEnroe!!! (enough said)

Any athlete doing battle to win a tournament or an event deserve to be angry when losing. Serena doesn't enjoy losing and neither should you! We all have competed in something in life before and can accept losing - because it is a fact of life - but can you lose with dignity & pride while knowing that you've been cheated...??? The question was asked would you want your kids to look up to her. Y E S ! This one outburst doesn't define her as a person or the legacy she will leave in the tennis world. Have you ever been to a pro event or a grand slam? Have you sat in the crowd to witness the ugly and harsh things that are yelled out at our athletes (black, white, asian etc.)? Have you ever been called spick, wetback, chink, cracker, monkey and had bananas thrown at you while in the midst of your event? What would you do - would you smile - would you become angry or would you be like Serena and most of our PROFESSIONAL athletes who hold they're composure and continue to serve up a can of whoop-assz!?! We must stop holding athletes at such a high standard as if they are immortals and immune to every day trials and tribulations. They are HUMANS who just so happen to be very good at what they do. It is not the athletes who need to change - it is "WE" who need to change. So yes, I'd advise my two daughters to look up to the Williams Sisters -- be about your business, stand firm in your beliefs and don't except undo sh*t from others. When you compete in this game called
LIFE - believe in yourself - believe you are the best - hold your head high and step out there knowing you can not be defeated.

Stop blaming Richard for the way he raised his children. He prepared them for what was to come. Richard taught his daughters how to perform under extreme pressure! He told them that they were the best and it is my strong belief that many more parents should be telling their kids that they are the best.

Let's re-focus to the REAL problem at hand... Serena & Venus were the only female athletes participating in the US Open to be repeatedly called for "Foot Faults". YES Sereana does foot fault and should be called for it. We are not discussing or debating does she foot fault -- but did she foot fault at that moment.
NO SHE DID NOT! Why is this important? It is an important fact because that wrong call not only caused her to lose the match but it is the reason we are here today discussing this matter.

During this "TIRADE"
(some of you should look up the exact meaning of tirade -- Tirade Definition Definition of Tirade at Dictionary.com) if you listen closely - amongst other things, you will also hear Serena say, "You Better Be Right"! (instant replay proved the line judge to be wrong) Let's not make this a Black vs White issue, but let's make it a fairness issue. IS THIS FAIR? NO! These girls have endured a lot! Some of you - esp. "Peaches" have short memories or selective memories.

Serena and her sister have always been in the center of unjust controversy -- look it up for yourself! Can you remember this "TIRADE"?

Officials apologize to Serena for bad call.Umpire dismissed from US Open after mistake in Williams loss to Capriati. “I called Serena,” said Arlen Kantarian, the Chief Executive of Professional Tennis. “I apologized for the call, the overrule — which was a clear mistake — and told her how important she was to the U.S. Open, how she was a class act and how well she handled the situation last night. “She was very appreciative of the call.” (okay - she was appreciative of the call but did they give her the win or pay her $82,000 for holding her composure? Did anyone apologize to the fans - what about the children who look up to her???)

U.S. Open Tournament Director Jim Curley said, “It was a mistake but she is a very experienced umpire and mistakes get made out there." WTF???

Later in the final set, replays showed at least two other incorrect calls that went against Williams. WTF???

“I’m very angry and bitter right now. I felt cheated. Shall I go on? I just feel robbed,” she said, managing to laugh. “At first, I thought it was another "Wimbledon Conspiracy” where here Sister Venus lost in the second round that summer at Wimbledon after Karolina Sprem was mistakenly awarded an extra point in the final-set tiebreaker. Venus did not contest the call, and later - chair umpire Ted Watts was tossed out of the tournament. Should Venus have been awarded the title or better yet $82,000 for acting "Lady Like"? Did anyone apologize to the fans - what about the children who look up to her???

Why are rules not equal? Why is it a violation for one and not the other...? i.e. Dinara Safina foot faulted 11 times that was recorded and replayed on TV and she was not called for 1. As a matter of fact - almost every time she serves it is a foot fault. Her right leg crosses the center line nearly every time - which is a foot fault. Someone said that if a pro basketball player threatened an official that they would be suspended for 1yr and fined. I agree - they would be ejected and penalized. The decision will be handed out swiftly - not debated upon for months. WTF??? Also does anyone know how those #'s were calculated and how did they come up with the total fine amount? Or did all of the cheaters on the committee decide that $82,000 divided amongst one another will be great "Stocking Stuffers"? I mean who does this fine benefit -- and isn't it kind of ironic that it happened just before Christmas? Why didn't he just say, "Hey Serena - my son needs tuition to go to Princeton - can you help? Oh great - - thanks - - we except direct deposit by the way!

Can anyone see the pattern? All of these mistakes that just happens to only happen to the Williams Sisters? So please don't sit on your highness and be so swift to judge -- and for all of you saying, "it's only $82,000 -- she can afford it" WHERE IN THE HELL ARE YOU FROM...???

I will end with this...
THIS IS WRONG!

"You don't know me! You better be right!"

Serena Williams has been listed as a headliner for this year's Australian Open. The problem is that it's not clear whether she'll be allowed to play.

Because of a recent outburst in which she threatened a line judge, Williams may be banned from at least one Grand Slam tournament. According to published reports, Williams told the judge, "You don't know me. You better be right. I swear to God I'm going to take this ball and shove it down your throat."Given that a ball going down your throat might actually kill you, the judge felt that Serena had threatened her life. Then again, Serena's from Compton, a town that has become famous for finding creative ways to kill people. Serena does not, however, need to take "the hood" with her all the way to Australia.

To make matters more interesting, Serena recently got naked for the cover of ESPN magazine, certifying her status as an iconic and thought-provoking figure for the early 21st century. These two events, plus the fact that she just happens to be one of the most dominant female tennis players in history, makes her the kind of woman we'll all be talking about for the next 100 years. Our great-grandkids won't be talking much about the boring apolitical figure called Michael Jordan. We'll congratulate Tiger Woods for being the first incredibly rich black man to consistently beat the crap out of the arrogant guys at the country club. Serena Williams' name, though, will come up in classes on feminist theory, history and sociology. Like Muhammad Ali, Serena is becoming bigger than her sport, and my greatest hope is that her ability to transcend tennis is guided by a desire to serve all humanity, and not just herself. Her nude body on the cover of ESPN is her way of yelling to the world that she is more than a tennis player. I agree that she is.

Someone asked me if I think that race plays a role in the banning of Serena Williams. I say, absolutely, yes, but not in the way you may imagine. You see, race and racism permeate the fabric of our society and play a powerful role in our perceptions, actions and attitudes. Even things that appear to have nothing to do with race end up having everything to do with race.

Those who dislike Serena do not hate her for having black skin, they hate her for "acting black." The cultural norms and attitudes that Serena carries as a black woman are heavily influenced by her Compton upbringing. Serena's strong response to the official might be inappropriate to the majority of non-black Americans, but many African Americans might be more likely to understand or forgive her seemingly aggressive behavior. (My mama threatened to kill me quite a few times growing up.) This does not, in any way, imply that misbehaving is "a black thing," (we all saw John McEnroe) or that black people are more aggressive. It simply says that the method for handling disputes might vary across cultural lines.

Those who know nothing about Serena's background are not going to understand Serena and will thus disapprove of some of her behavior. Human nature dictates that we tend to dislike those who are different, which is why the officials end up hating Serena. Even before the incident took place, many officials had already found the behavior of the Williams sisters to be unacceptable, similar to the way a white school teacher from the suburbs is five times more likely to decide that a black male student has a behavioral disorder. The truth is that the world has never seen a woman like Serena Williams, and it probably never will again.

I congratulate Serena for her boldness and expression of independent thought. Simultaneously, I encourage her to show a bit more discipline on the court, since there is no need to "get gangsta" with a line judge - although the call was WRONG!

I can't believe that they are actually considering banning Serena. Let's be honest and clear - THIS IS A MATTER OF RACE! Does she deserve to be punished for her actions - YES.

Serena Williams was fined $10,000 for her actions at the end of her semifinal loss to Kim Clijsters at the U.S. Open.

The amount is the largest fine that is allowed to be issued by a Grand Slam tournament for unsportsmanlike conduct. She was also fined an additional $500 for racquet abuse at the conclusion of the first set.

If that isn't punishment -- I don't know what is...! So for those of you saying she will be made an example of -- you are absolutly correct. They are about to show they're "True Colors"!
